A's MUG Root Beer Float Day set for Wednesday, July 30A's players and Bay Area celebrities to scoop ice cream for Juvenile Diabetes Research FoundationOAKLAND -- The Oakland Athletics will host its Ninth Annual MUG Root Beer Float Day at McAfee Coliseum on Wednesday, July 30, as the A's meet the Kansas City Royals at 12:35 p.m. Local celebrities along with radio and television personalities and newspaper reporters will be serving root beer floats in the East Side Club from 10:35 a.m. to 1 p.m. with proceeds benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Admission is free to the event with a ticket for that afternoon's 12:35 p.m. game between the A's and Royals. The root beer floats will be priced at $2 each and additional money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will be raised through tips given in exchange for autographs and pictures with the celebrity scoopers. In addition, 32oz. mugs with unlimited root beer float refills will be sold for $15 and a limited supply of 32oz. mugs autographed by Mark Ellis will be available for $25. Additional proceeds are raised through an on-line auction titled "Be a Celebrity Scooper" and a silent auction of sports memorabilia. Among those who are expected to participate in the event along with various Bay Area radio and television personalities are A's players Rajai Davis, Lenny DiNardo, Dana Eveland, Carlos Gonzalez, Huston Street and Ryan Sweeney to name a few, coaches Tony DeFrancesco and Tye Waller and wives of A's players. In addition, A's broadcasters Ray Fosse, Glen Kuiper, Vince Cotroneo and Robert Buan will be on hand to scoop floats, sign autographs and pose for pictures. Last year's MUG Root Beer Float Day raised over $35,000 and over the past five years the A's have raised over $215,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. MUG Root Beer Float Day is sponsored by Pepsi. The ice cream for the event is donated by Dreyer's.
