He has sold 45 million records and racked up 12 RIAA Gold albums, 4 Platinum albums and 1 Double-Platinum album. Of his 75 trips up the charts, 27 landed in the Top 10. Campbell was hand-picked by actor John Wayne to play alongside him in the 1969 film True Grit, which gave Campbell a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer, and gave Wayne his only Academy Award. Campbell sang and had a hit with the title song (by the same name) which was nominated for an Academy Award. He performed it live at that year's Academy Awards Show.In 2005, Campbell was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

just heard on CNN..he is going fast into altimerzers and going to give a final song on up coming music awards show....replayed this song back in 80s driving out to California from NYC about 50 times or so thru Wyoming and Arizonia

Saw him perform this year (Jan. 2012) and he got a little teary-eyed singing this song - it still touches him to sing and play this song. He was spot on with the vocals as well. To me, Glen and probably the late John Denver are two male country vocalists who can sing to share a story beautifully. Stevie Wonder and Tony Bennett are amazing as well (it would be interesting to hear Tony sing a country song - Steve's been there, done that - :D )

Glen Campbell is one of the great country performers, I can remember my uncles playing the music from the country singers, and because you are a Black man does not mean you can not understand the true soul of country music which is about life and love

While I previously stated how fantastic Glenn was here, it must also be noted how great that backup band was on this song.. Great sound, for just a few they sounded like a full orchestra.. :)
