UP 4-8-4 #844 at Wichita, KS. The bell you hear from time to time is that of ATSF 4-8-4 #3768. It was a good day to be a railfan in Kansas.

Your lucky Chuck, 844 doesn't come to my city (Sacramento, CA) very often, only for the Railfair, which the next one isn't until 2011.

yup both 844 and 3985 rule. If I get a Job for UP Im probaly gonna ask the boss if we can bring back a Big Boy 4-8-8-4 which is 4014 not 4023 cause 4023 is in bad condition cause of its tool by the envronment. So 4014 would be a good choice, Hopefully I get out of HS and Collage then get the job, after that i will try UP 4014

There is a funny story about this engine. In 1996, a freight train stalled on the mainline. They were going to send helper diesels to push the powerless train. But, instead they had 844, with a passenger train nurse the whole frieght train, powerless diesels included, all the way back to the yard. Folks, this is one tough engine.
