I feel you pain on the loss of such a tornado sight. I was about 3 and 1/2 miles away near my relative families farm watching this of course. It was fascinating but we remembered to call the neighbors in warning of course.

it happens in America because parts of the country have perfect weather conditions at certain times of the year (like spring, and some days of summer and fall) to produce these super cells (which are REALLY strong thunder storms capable of rotation, which can sometimes produce tornadoes) |
