Travel and Transportation

Discover your many options for getting in and around Wichita using public transportation. Most Wichita residents rely on private automobiles for travel around the region. The Kansas Turnpike (Interstate 35), Interstates 135 and 235, U.S. Route 54/400, and K-96 run through and near the city.

Air Service

Wichita Mid-Continent Airport is located 6 miles southwest of Wichita. As the largest airport in the state of Kansas, Wichita Mid-Continent serves more than one million passengers a year. The facility is large enough to handle major airlines but small enough to avoid the confusion of major airports.

Twelve airlines provide air service to Wichita with non-stop flights to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Memphis, Minneapolis, Orlando, Phoenix, and St. Louis.

The latest project to prepare for construction of the new terminal building began on August 25. The main road in front of Mid-Continent Airport will be realigned from south of Crossfield Road to the west end of the terminal building. The new roadway will serve the new terminal building. This project also involves the relocation of all utilities that serve the airport and to make a clear path for utilities to service the new terminal building.

Though traffic to the terminal will be maintained at all times, no parking will be allowed in front of the baggage claim area during the installation of duct banks. Motorists picking up arriving passengers should use the Courtesy Cell Phone lot, located south of the Park & Ride lot on Air Cargo Road. Follow the detour signs to reach the front of the terminal from the cell phone lot.

Fixed-Base Operators

Fixed-base operators located at Wichita Mid-Continent include Yingling Aircraft, United Beechcraft, and Executive Aircraft Corporation. Twelve cargo operators also have facilities at the airport.
