The Best Castles For Weddings

For the ultimate fairytale wedding, a castle for the ceremony and reception is a must. However with a variety of castles all over the UK, it’s difficult to pick. All castles have different styles, are situated in very different landscapes and have many different features. Here are our top five to get you started.

Hampton Court Castle & Gardens As a former royal palace and a 15th century castle, Hampton Court is perhaps one of the most well known castles in the world. There is a historic chapel that’s licensed for ceremonies. With 12 acres of award winning gardens and a ballroom complete with chandeliers, you’ll feel like a queen on your special day.

Amberley Castle, South Downs This castle has been hidden away in a corner of the South Downs for the last 900 years and is one of the most remote and secluded castles in the country. A wonderfully exclusive and private castle enclosed by 60ft of curtain walls. With Jacuzzi bathrooms and four poster beds, the 19 bedrooms are elegantly furnished. With a traditional croquet lawn, a unique tree house and two award winning restaurants there’s plenty to keep guests entertained.

Leeds Castle, Kent Nestled in 500 acres of gardens in a corner of the Kent countryside with a maze, moat and aviary, Leeds Castle is perhaps the most majestic of the castles on our list. Ceremonies can take place in the library, dining room, gatehouse or Maidens Tower. There is also a wide choice with the reception as well with either small intimate rooms used or outdoor marquees for larger groups.

Rowton castle Shropshire This Rowton Castle Hotel is a grade 2 listed building, built in the 17th century with 17 acres of secluded gardens and just to to the west of Shrewsbury. Rowton Castle accommodation is sumptuous with renovation of the castle completed to a very high standard. Wedding packages are available for a variety of budgets.

Eilean Donan Castle Many will recognise this castle as one of the iconic images of Scotland. Set where three lochs converge this castle has the most magnificent views. If the weather is good wedding ceremonies can take place outdoors to take advantage of the views looking out over Skye, or inside in the banqueting hall. However unfortunately the castle does not have its own catering facilities so your reception would have to be held elsewhere.

Remember demand for civil wedding venues increases during the summer months therefore booking well in advance is highly recommended.
