Engagement Rings: A Promise of Commitment

In many different cultures around the world, buying an engagement ring is the signal of a commitment to wed.  While the one thing that remains the same is the role of engagement rings, they are obtainable in an virtually endless assortment of designs.  An engagement ring could be a large emerald worth millions of dollars, or it could be a humble silver band worth a couple of bucks. The essential idea to keep in mind is the purpose of the ring and not the cost of it.  Engagement rings are really big statements for the two people that are engaged, and these engagement rings also have meaning for the individuals around who see them.

A man usually presents the gift of an engagement ring to the woman he intends to marry as a sign of his commitment to her.  The woman accepts an engagement ring as a sign of accepting the commitment to this union.  Usually a man will present a ring to the woman he wants to marry after dating or romancing the woman for a period of time.  The overall rule is to date for roughly a year, although it is truly up to the couple how long to hold off before getting engaged.  There are also no set rules about how and when the man should deliver the engagement ring to his future wife. Many men choose to do this during a quiet moment, while others want to share the moment with a crowd.

Engagement Rings Mean Love And Hope

Most couples choose diamonds to adorn the engagement ring, as these precious stones hold up a lifetime.  Diamonds are one of the hardest substances in existance, and this is the primary reason they last over time.  These gems are representative of a love that is hoped to last forever like the diamond.  As A Matter Of Fact, the diamonds in these rings frequently last beyond the bride’s lifetime and become family heirlooms to be passed down to other generations.  Consequently, it’s understandable how diamonds have become the gem of choice for engagement rings for many people.

Once a woman receives her engagement ring, she is supposed to wear it on her left hand as a signal that she has made a commitment.  In addition, all of the members of a society that acknowledges these rings as a mark of committedness will at once understand that this woman is intended to be married.  Nearly all couples indeed marry at the close of their engagement, although some couples do opt to not go through with the wedding ceremony.  Once a wedding ceremony happens, the bride ordinarily wears the wedding ring she received during the ceremony on the same finger as her engagement ring.  The wedding ring is also displayed on the left hand as a signal that the commitment is final and should last forever.
