Choosing The Perfect Engagement Ring

If you are ready to get engaged, you will definitely want to pick out a dazzling diamond engagement ring for your fiancée.  Choosing a ring might seem easy, but making sure you pick out a quality diamond can be a little tricky.  What’s more the range of rings to buy seems endless, from heart shaped diamond engagement rings right through to canary diamond engagement rings.

You want to make sure you choose a diamond that will sparkle and shine.  The engagement ring is used to symbolize a lifelong commitment to the one you love.  You wouldn’t dream of making compromises when choosing a partner and it doesn’t make sense to make them when you choose the engagement ring.

Choosing the Best Diamond for Your Budget

Most people know that a diamonds character and quality are determined by the 4Cs.  When these properties are combined, the stone’s value can be determined which will help people choose the best diamond they can afford.  This article will explain each of the 4Cs in order to prepare you to pick out the best diamond engagement ring you can find.

The Diamond Carat:

A diamonds size is measured by carats.  This is a measurement unit that is derived from the ancient method of balancing scales.  In contemporary times a carat is equal to 200 milligrams, and one ounce is equal to 142 carats.  The small diamonds are measured by cents.  The higher the carat, the higher the price will be.

The Color Of A Diamond:

Many people are surprised to learn that diamonds are available in different colors like yellow, black and pink.  However, most people prefer white diamonds over all others.

However, most people prefer white diamonds over all others.  They are translucent and colorless and are very rare to mine.  The price tag reflects this rarity.  Other precious gems are normally graded by how far their color is away from pure white and deep color is desired.  When you are selecting a diamond, choose one that is as close to white as possible and has no yellowish tinge.

Diamond Clarity:

A diamonds most fascinating property is the shear clarity offered.  While diamonds clarity is usually affected by external elements, it is not unusual for a diamond to be less than appealing because of internal infections.  Since diamonds are natural stones, they can have small lines, bubbles, or spots that are called inclusions.  These inclusions will drop the quality level so it’s important that you look for these imperfections when shopping for a diamond engagement ring.

Diamond Cut:

Nearly every diamond is cut according to a mathematical formula that’s pre-calculated.  One of the cuts that is most cherished is the radiant cut with 64 to 70 facets.  The diamond cut that is most commonly sold is the round cut with 58 facets.  A facet is a flat, small, and perfectly polished surface that reflects the maximum amount of light so the diamond is sparkling, bright and completely eye catching.

It’s Your Choice:

While the 4Cs are important when choosing a diamond, it is equally important to choose a ring that your fiancée will love.  Would your betrothed enjoy an oval, square, round, or rectangular shape?   Be sure to give some thought to the design and setting as well.  Once you have made your selection, be sure you buy the diamond engagement ring from an accredited member of the Gemological Institute of America.

finding the perfect ring can be tricky alright. if you can just stay educated by reading guides like these, u’ll be off to a good start. I like how you mention GIA, because I’ve always been told to look for their grading reports with whatever diamond I buy. I feel like some people might think they can tell the 4 C’s on their own but it’s really impossible w/o a report, so good job pointing that out.
